Something Old!

 By: JoshTheCanadian : May 14th, 2024-01:38
Sure don't make 'em like they used to. Been looking for a vintage Movado Celestograf for a few years now and when I saw this one mentioned by the guys at Hairspring I had to have it: For those who are interested, some more information: "When watch enthusi...

Wow. I have never seen this watch before.

It’s so beautiful. The breguet numerals … the date / month windows … the bracelet….the dial color.

I agree...

Those breguet numerals do make everything better! Beautiful watch.

If only Movado could have avoided that partially occluded 7!

Thanks for your comment.

Stunning watch…

…if it said ‘Rolex’ on the dial it would be $1M : )

I agree with your sentiment!

Although, this does not stop me from pining for that Rolex Killy that was just auctioned! ...

Big fan of Vintage Movado

is it 36mm

It is a rather diminutive 34.5 mm.

I think if it was 36 mm or 37 mm, it would be more popular. I find the lugs give it a significant amount of presence though.

Beautiful

And great write up!

Something gold

Before even starting to comment on this beautiful watch, your description is like a poem for the vintage Movado. The watch and it's condition is breathtaking, and bring up old memories... I've liked and started to collect vintage "complicated date" Movado...

Thanks for your comment!

I've been looking from something, like this, in strong condition, and gosh was it hard. For better or for worse, it appears that most owners wore theirs! I agree with your sentiment about vintage Movado giving vintage Patek (or, in my opinion, Rolex) vibe...

Thanks, Nico!

The case is strong, but obviously polished. But hey, it is a gold watch from the 40s, what can you expect? But the dial is pretty darn immaculate, which is really the selling point for me. Appreciate you taking the time to comment.

Huge congratulations to this amazing catch!

Vintage Movados are amongst the best kept secrets and best value watches one can buy. There is so much to discover, a lot of hidden gems to be found in the old Movado catalogs. This brand is a sleeping giant in the vintage market, but let's better not wak...

That Kingmatic is lovely! I have much to learn.

Speaking of - any suggestions on where to start learning? I feel like it is very difficult to find good information, aside from Tony Traina's article on the M90. Have you happened to read the book?

I have not read the book,

my primary source of information are several Instagram accounts and Youtube channels along with some threads and past sales listings on different online forums. But you are right - information about vintage Movados is scarce. They must be one of the best ...

Some wonderful too

Looks great & really like the write up/ depth of knowledge too. Enjoy wearing it Cheers JML

Hairspring is a great follow

They sell their own watches, but they also post vintage/modern finds and give a little write up. Helps to contextualize watches offered by some dealers.

Undervalued

To underline the unappreciated quality of Movado I share my simple watch being worn today. Calibre 150MN movement with Geneva stripes, adjusted to 4 positions, 3 gold chatons, fancy hands and modified Breguet numbers all contained in a then and still fash...

Beautiful!

Congrats on the find. It's a very beautiful watch and one I had not seen before. I agree, a different name on the dial and everyone would go crazy for it!

So beautiful.

A similar piece, same era

Fantastic!

Beautiful, thanks for sharing!

Gorgeous watch! I love it. Yes, the French case... I also happened to own a Rolex french case

 By: Cocolex : May 14th, 2024-14:22
In the 40's and 50's when import tarifs on gold watch were very high, lots of brands were having the movement sent to france and casing were made in france. They are rare, and not much talked about... Rolex french case ...

Amazing find.

An oldie but a goodie, for those people with a discerning eye for beauty, as you've said. Congratulations, and enjoy it.

Sure dresses up nicely.
